colors

this is the piece that i did for New Media. I was inspired by the Cory Arcangel video "colors."Cory Arcangel took every color in the motion picture colors and stretched them into bands of color. For this piece I cut strips of color out of every page of a magazine and pasted them in lines on card stock then I covered it in resin to mimic the shine of the tv screen.

  1. I thought that this was a unique and interesting piece. I am intrigued by that piece by Cory Arcangel and I can see why he'd be a good inspiration.

  2. This shot of the piece makes me think of sandwiches, but actually it is lunch time so maybe I was already thinking about them. I enjoy your use of resin and would like to hear more about that process. The gloss and even surface makes everything seem so much more professional.

  3. I think your collage is really beautiful and it is interesting how all the colors work very well together. The stripes remind me of when your TV loses signal and the three rows of colored stripes come on the screen.

  4. Taryn-
Loved the simplicity of your piece. What makes it really strong, is the research and process that went into making the piece. I liked how you referenced a film to produced what you did. Very clever and an alternative way of thinking!

  5. I was drawn to your piece because I love to make collages myself. I find it really interesting the way that color is chosen as the main interest of the piece rather than imagery. Having colors in roughly the same shape was a smart decision because it minds the viewer of the focus of the work. The way that you used the resin to mimic the tv screen is also very clever. great tie between traditional and new media!

I really like this piece, particularly looking at it in person. I think the idea is a really interesting one and the way you took the initial idea of a movie and did it with a magazine. I also like how you continued to work the piece with the resin.
I would love to see more of these! it is great!

  7. It was nice to see this piece in person. I like the colors that you used, and that you applied resin as a top layer for an interesting effect. It would be cool to see more of these in different sizes and varying colors. Great job!

  8. I've had the experience of touching this piece and I think the resin on it adds a quality you don't necessarily see with the digital image. Your choice of color was interesting and playful. It would be cool large scale or super small scale too.

Ps that first comment is mad creepy.

  9. I really like this piece, it's interesting how the colors work even though they are all from different pages of a magazine, like several things can be completely unrelated and still come together. i like it, it's like a test pattern.

  10. This piece is very visually pleasing and successful in distorting an image and reducing it to just a color and shape. This could be an interesting mock-up for a large scale abstract painting.
